2010 Jalapa/Boulder Delegation Itinerary

Friendship City Projects (FCP) is honored to arrange Mayor Susan Osborne's visit to Jalapa, Nicaragua. FCP welcomes CU's faculties and students as well as community members to join this visit.

Below is the tentative itinerary and the projected cost of this trip is $1000 or less. If you are interested to join us, please email by August 13, 2010.

September 15, 2010
Leave Denver around 11:30 am. Fly into Managua via Houston. Arrive Managua at 8pm. Night at airport hotel near Managua.

September 16, 2010
Ride the 6AM bus from Managua to Jalapa. Bus ride is about 6 hours, arrive in Jalapa around 1pm. Meet and greet with Jalapa representatives. Night with host families.
September 17, 2010 and September 18, 2010
Visit Jalapa, Pasmata and other surrounding villages. Tentative activities* include:
• Visit villages with clean water delivery systems
• Visit community gardens (FCP’s Huertos Familiares program)
• Visit schools and community centers that FCP helps to build
• Visit the village that implemented the environmental friendly cook stove project
• Meet with representatives from the Woman Foundation
• Meet with representatives from the artisan co-op
• Meet with representatives from the women bakery co-op
• Meet with representatives from CETA (an university branch near Jalapa promoting organic agriculture)
• Meet with representatives from Helping Hands (a NGO addressing education and health care issues)
• Participate in corn festival activities
Night with host families.

*FCP welcomes any suggestions to our listed activities. We will help arrange activities that suit the purpose of your visit.

September 19, 2010
Wrap up remaining activities in the morning. Leave Jalapa around noon. Ride the afternoon bus from Jalapa to Managua. Night at airport hotel near Managua.

September 20, 2010
Leave Managua around 7 am. Fly back to Denver via Houston. Arrive Denver at 4pm.
